“I really liked the simplicity of the structure and presentation, and accessibility of the language and illustrations. I can see how this would work really well with children and families.
I hadn’t come across the concept of the Jesse Tree tradition before, so found that a helpful way of reflecting through the Advent season.
Although short and simple, I found the daily readings insightful and inspiring, often giving me a fresh perspective on familiar Bible passages.
I can imagine returning to this book in future years, either individually or to share with others.”

“Just want to thank you SO much for this beautiful book which. It’s exactly what I need right now in the crazy run up to Christmas, simple and beautifully written.
I love how it takes you right back to the roots of the Christian faith in the old testament and is refreshingly simple and easy to read with nice short chapters, the main message being only one page long.
The points to ponder and simple prayer at the end of each chapter are so helpful. This book definitely needs a wider audience!”

“I liked the way that this devotional went through the season of advent by going through some of the memorable stories of the Bible from the first book of Genesis through to the gospels with the Christmas story.
The variety of different writers was good, as each took a different story but their ways of dealing with it and the story of Jesus varied.
Each day started with the quotation from the Bible passage, then the writer’s interpretation of it, a set of questions to get you thinking and a final prayer.
Rachel Yarworth has compiled a good anthology with an original take on the Christmas story.”

“These short devotionals are perfect for the busy Advent season.
Although they are short in length and very accessible to those with little Bible knowledge, they are also thought-provoking and profound.
Each day’s devotional focuses on a different Old Testament Bible character and how their story points ahead to Jesus.
The questions for reflection/ discussion and short prayer each day make it ideal for families as well as individuals.
I’d recommend this to anyone who wants to prepare for Christmas in a meaningful way.”
